Across the country, buyers with Chinese surnames are the hottest homebuyer last names, but not in Denver or Colorado.
That’s according to real estate data firm Attom Data Solutions, which released its "Hottest Homebuyer Last Names in 2017" list on Thursday.
Nationally, "the top 8 hottest homebuyer last names in 2017 were of Chinese origin, with the ninth and 10th on the list of Korean and Vietnamese origin," according to Attom.
But that’s not the case in Colorado and in Denver.
In Colorado, the hottest homebuyer last name is Morales, which saw a 70 percent increase in homes purchased in 2017.
In Denver, the buyer name with the biggest increase in home buys was Chavez, with a 34 percent increase in 2017.
To create the list, Attom said it "looked at buyer last names on more than 2.3 million single family home sales deeds nationwide in 2016 and 2017 to determine the hottest names based on percentage increase in home purchases. The analysis also looked at family name origin information from Ancestry.com for the hottest homebuyer names, as well as where these buyer names are most active by local market."
In March, the Denver Business Journal reported some other Attom research, that new home loans in Denver and Boulder dropped by 37 percent year-over-year in the fourth quarter of 2017.
